Non-administrative Users of CodeManager

Users who do not have administrative rights on the computer they use to run CodeManager will need to have extra rights granted so they may access all areas of the program.


Users who do not have these rights granted may see the following symptoms:


All users of the CodeManager software need the following rights enabled:

  1. Right to read the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ODBC key in the registry

  2. Right to write files to the Windows folder

  3. Right to write files to the CodeManager 2006\Apache folder


To grant these rights follow these steps:

  1. Log in as a user with administrative rights on the computer

  2. Start the registry editor by going to Start, Run, typing “regedit” in the Open box and clicking OK

  3. Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ODBC key

  4. Right click on the “ODBC” text in the left pane

  5. Left click on the Permissions entry in the popup menu

  6. Select or add the group containing users who will run CodeManager

  7. In the “Permissions for users” box check the Allow box on the Read line

  8. Click OK

  9. Close the Registry Editor

  10. Open the Windows Explorer

  11. Navigate to the location where CodeManager 2006 was installed (By default it will be installed to C:\Program Files\AMA\CodeManager 2006)

  12. Open the Tools menu and choose Folder Options

  13. Click the View tab

  14. Scroll to the bottom of the “Advanced settings:”box

  15. Uncheck the “Use simple file sharing (Recommended)” option

  16. Click OK

  17. Right click on the Apache folder

  18. Left click on the Properties entry in the popup menu

  19. Click on the “Security” tab

  20. Select or add the group containing users who will run CodeManager

  21. In the “Permissions for (group name):” box below make sure the following Allow boxes are checked: “Read & Execute”, “List Folder Contents”, “Read”, “Write”

  22. Click OK. Note you may have to wait while these rights are implemented.

  23. In the Windows Explorer navigate to the Windows directory (C:\Windows)

  24. Right click on the Windows folder

  25. Left click on the Properties entry in the popup menu

  26. Click on the “Security” tab

  27. Select or add the group containing users who will run CodeManager

  28. In the “Permissions for (group name):” box below make sure the following Allow boxes are checked: “Read & Execute”, “List Folder Contents”, “Read”, “Write”

  29. Click OK. Note you may have to wait while these rights are implemented.

  30. Close all programs and reboot the computer

  31. Users can now use all areas of the program.
